Bang Haunted Mansion

Up in Bang, Ohio there is this awesome building that is deteriorating away. Way back in 1875 it was the Knox County poor House consisting of 90 rooms and 40,000 square feet, and stayed as such for over 75 years. In 1953 it became the Mt. Vernon College and stayed that way until the late 1980s. After that, it became an actual "Haunted House" every Halloween until the center of the building began to cave in and it became too unsafe to occupy.

I AM going back some weekend this fall. It has to have some cool creepy photo ops!

Project 365 Leftovers

Here are some leftover photos from my Project 365.  In other words, these are the ones that didn't make it but aren't all that bad so I am putting them here.  :-)

Some antique oil lamps that were in a basement window at the Shoe Factory Antique Mall in Lancaster, Ohio.

From my "Bark" series on Project 365. Ever try to take creative photos of bark? Challenging.

This is the barn at the Slate Run Historical Park near Lithopolis, Ohio. It is an 1800s working farm. That is, people in period clothing, using period tools to run an actual farm, from raising hogs and chickens to plowing by horse. Worth the trip!

Queen Ann's Heart

I am not 100% sure, but I think this is a Queen Ann's Lace plant. They are usually more circular in shape. Perhaps this one was still growing. At any rate, I like the delicacy of it and the natural heart shape that it has. Black and white was the only way to do it justice.

Here's a hodgepodge of stuff from yesterday's motorcycle ride. Feel free to leave comments. I'd love to read them.

Three Shots Today

After supper Barbara felt like going for a drive. Was fine with me as she was doing the driving.  Was a beautiful late afternoon (or early evening if you prefer) and found a few photo-ops. Enjoy.

Nice colorful cut wheat field.

Two fawns hightailing (or maybe that should be whitetailing) it across the soy bean field. Never did see the momma. Is a bit blurry as we didn't stop the car.

Welcome to Hell

I REALLY love this piece. It's a simple "duplicate, flip and weld" job, but it just gives the feel of a satanic figure with his firey hands held out, inviting you into his realm.

Backyard Berries

Close-up of a berry bush and it's fruit that was planted in our back yard by one of the visiting birds.  :-)

More Rusty Things

A close up view of the inside of a rusting burn barrel. The is Rusting Burn Barrel No. 2.  No. 1 is on my Project 365 Blog.

This is a close up of the bottom plate of a Park Grill. Interesting colors and abstract design.

Hillbilly Hot Dogs, Lesage, WV

Here are some photos of our bike ride down to Lesage, WV to eat hot dogs at Hillbilly Hot Dogs.  Yes, we rode our motorcycles 400 miles round trip to eat there. What a fun and interesting place!

Tennis Match Finches

I just found this down right comical. I was snapping away at these Finches who seem to have been watching a tennis match, and then begin discussing it with one another.  :-)

Today's Backyard Visitors

The feeder was full and so was my back yard!

Mr. and Mrs. Finch dropped by for a bite to eat.

A nice puffy male Cardinal.

Mr. Bluejay.  Always a skittish bird.

The local noise maker. A Red Bellied Woodpecker.

One of the many squirrels.

Even at a 125th of a second shutter speed, he still comes out blurry!

The End of Oxbow Road

All of these were taken along the shore at the end of Oxbow Road, just south of Galena, Ohio.

I liked the reds and purples in the piece of driftwood as well as the texture of the stoney shoreline.

Just a photo of a lost feather. No, I am NOT going to be looking for Lost Feathers now!

"Painted Death"
I found this poor dead Painted Turtle on a path just above shoreline.  In time, his body will decay and fertilize the soils, as well as feed small critters.  Even his shell will get nibbled on for it's protein.

My Urbana Visit

Just a few shots from today's visit at my co-worker and photo friend Angie Mann's Photo Exhibit in Urbana, Ohio.

There were plenty of refreshments!  I just couldn't resist....I had an Orange Crush.

Loved this stuff out on the street. An old painted up door with rusty padlock and an awesome building across the street dated 1881!
